About the project

“Museums over the borders” is a project that came into existence thanks to great effort of employees from two museums that, despite being separated by an administrative border, remain very close to each other.

The Museum of Archaeology and History in Elblag and the Friedland Gate Museum in Kaliningrad are together carrying out a project based on close cooperation. The aims of the project are promotion, building tourist potential and good relationships between the citizens of Kaliningrad and Elblag, and creating tourism policy based on culture and history.

MODERN MULTIMEDIA

As part of the project there will appear two identical holographic installations which will exhibit common cultural and historical heritage.
The renovated rooms are going to be equipped with modern multimedia appliances and exhibition systems to present collections.

CULTURALLY AND SCIENTIFICALLY

It is planned to create a tourist guidebook in two version: Polish-Russian and German-English. Its purpose is going to be the presentation of places which unite the two cities, and display of common historical motifs.

Another element which emphasizes common past of Elblag and Kaliningrad is going to be a documentary film entitled “Evidence” (or “Testimony”). The film will include a series of interviews with former inhabitants of both cities, who used to live here in the first part of the 20th century. It is going to emphasize memories of adolescence and elements that united the two cities at that time.

EDUCATION PROGRAM

Another important venture is going to include the elaboration of a common education project, i.e. combined museum classes and time exhibitions, scientific and research collaboration, and cooperation in organising museum events.

The effects and results of the project will be presented on a 3-day common conference, planned for October 2014.
